Organized by Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)
Two-day educational conference of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons on perioperative and critical care, aimed at the whole cardiothoracic care team.
The 2026 STS Perioperative & Critical Care Conference gathers cardiothoracic critical care teams at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor in Maryland for a meeting built around what happens to the cardiac and thoracic surgical patient outside the operating room. Clinicians searching for a cardiac critical care conference in the USA, a cardiothoracic ICU CME course, or ECMO and mechanical circulatory support education will find the agenda mapped onto daily unit problems rather than operative technique.
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons runs this meeting for the whole perioperative team rather than for surgeons alone, which is why the audience defined by the society reaches beyond surgeons to intensivists, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, catheterization lab technicians, perfusionists, pharmacists and respiratory therapists. Topic coverage includes enhanced recovery after surgery pathways, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, shock and right ventricular failure, vasoplegia, transfusion and bleeding management, prevention of postoperative atrial fibrillation, and how critical care services themselves are organized to avoid failure to rescue.
The conference is designated for a maximum of 12.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits under the society's ACCME accreditation, which makes it a compact option for physicians completing continuing medical education requirements in cardiothoracic intensive care. Registration is tiered, running from 500 US dollars for STS member residents, fellows and medical students up to 1,150 US dollars for non-member physicians and industry participants, with allied health rates in between. The Inner Harbor address places the venue in central Baltimore, with Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport serving delegates travelling from outside Maryland.
