National scientific congress on obesity research, policy and treatment, held once a year as the main event of a professional association.
The 11th UK Congress on Obesity (UKCO 2026) takes place on 17 and 18 September 2026 at Cutlers' Hall in Sheffield city centre. It is the main event in the calendar of the Association for the Study of Obesity (ASO), a UK registered charity (number 1100648) whose stated aim is to develop an understanding of obesity through excellence in research and education and to promote action to prevent and treat obesity. The 2026 local organising committee is co-led by Dr Laura Gray of the University of Sheffield and Dr Catherine Homer of Sheffield Hallam University.
The congress theme is Obesity Through Different Life Stages, reflecting the changing landscape of obesity prevention, management and treatment across the life course. Plenary lectures are delivered by Professor Hora Soltani of Sheffield Hallam University, Professor Jim McManus of Public Health Wales, Professor Liz Williams of the University of Sheffield and Professor Julian Hamilton-Shield of the University of Bristol, alongside member-led symposia, oral communications, rapid-fire talks, posters and three-minute early-career presentations.
Delegates searching for a UK obesity conference 2026 or an obesity congress in Sheffield should note that registration closes on 2 September 2026. Early bird rates ended at 23:59 BST on 30 June 2026, and separate fee bands apply to ASO members, non-members, student members and student non-members, PPIE delegates, commercial and industry representatives and press. An on-site registration rate of GBP 600 plus a processing fee applies to every delegate category.
A day of satellite meetings runs on 16 September 2026, including the ASO Early Career Network day for early career members, an event for the association's Centres for Obesity Management open to clinical members, an ASO Yorkshire Network meeting and a public-facing event. Abstract submission closed on 25 May 2026 after an extension, and the submission portal is no longer accepting entries.
