50 Years of Excellence

October 6-9, 2026 | Montréal Convention Center, Montréal, Canada

Organized by Palliative Care McGill, McGill University

International scientific congress on palliative care, held every two years, with a program co-developed with a national palliative medicine society.

Palliative Care McGill has organised the Montreal International Palliative Care Congress since Dr Balfour Mount and his colleagues founded it in 1976. It is held every two years and brings clinical practice, research and the humanities of end-of-life care together in a single programme. The 2026 edition is framed as a fiftieth-anniversary gathering covering the span from 1976 to 2026, and McGill also counts it as the 25th congress in the series.

The congress takes place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, the city's main convention centre in the Quartier international. Sessions run in English, French and Spanish, which makes this one of the few palliative medicine meetings that serves Latin American, francophone European and North American delegates within one programme. Roughly 1,500 people are expected to attend, and the chair of the 2026 edition is Dr Justin Sanders of McGill University.

Clinicians searching for a palliative care congress in Canada, an international hospice and end-of-life care conference, or MIPCC 2026 will find a programme organised around dignity, presence, humanity, care, legacy and compassion. Pre-congress workshops on the opening day cover psychiatric and psychotherapeutic approaches in hospice and palliative care and museum-based education in observational skills, and a separate innovation challenge invites new ideas in the field. The audience spans physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, psychologists, volunteers, educators and researchers working with people who have serious and life-limiting illness. Registration is handled through the Fourwaves congress platform, with fees quoted in Canadian dollars before applicable taxes and early-bird rates available until 10 August 2026.
